7 Wellness Things to Do in Port Isaac

If you love to travel in ways that enhance your well-being, this look at wellness inspired things to do in Port Isaac will brighten your day.

A visit to Port Isaac is like stepping back in time.

With centuries-old whitewashed cottages, narrow winding streets and colorful boats bobbing in the harbor…it’s a great escape for the mind and body.

Time spent here will leave you feeling refreshed & inspired.

Post Isaac is a charming fishing village nestled away on Cornwall’s rugged north coast.

It’s an enchanting place that encircles a scenic harbor of dreamy blue-green water. A place you could spend hours meandering the narrow passageways, breathing in the ocean air, and exploring the coastal path.

The village huddles round a scenic inlet that dates back to Saxon times.

The harbor pier goes back to Henry VIII and many of the fisherman’s cottages are Grade 2 listed structures dating back to the 18th & 19th centuries. Here, you get the feeling that not much has changed over the years.

Port Isaac is also home to the popular BBC television series Doc Martin. That’s what first put the village on my radar, and then quickly onto my bucket list.

It’s every bit as charming in person, and if possible the views are even better than on TV.

In fact, it’s the abundant outdoor activities that make it an ideal place to plan wellness travels.

7 Wellness Inspired Things To Do In Port Isaac

Port Isaac, much like the rest of Cornwall is a hub of wellness travel. I can see why people flock there. It’s perfect for whatever your mind & body need…rest, relaxation, or rejuvenation.

As a tireless advocate for travel as a way to well-being, I’m always on the lookout for experiences that enrich the mind & body.

So my wellness-minded traveling friend, let’s dive into the possibilities!

These are a few of the things I found meaningful, energizing, & inspiring…and think you will too!

Walk The Southwest Coast Path to Port Gaverne

Port Isaac lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and a heritage coast area, so walking the South West Coast Path (in either direction) is a must! It’s an ideal way to stay in shape on the road.

Stretch your legs and take in the mile walk as you meander the path to Port Gaverne. It’s an enjoyable way to spend an hour or two.

An unspoiled cove with a sandy beach and rock pools, Port Gaverne is an intimate and sheltered place to stop, relax, and enjoy the sea.

The far side of Post Gaverne provides lovely rocky paths to explore and sweeping views of Tintagel.

It’s a great place to watch fishermen work their magic.

Hike The SW Coast Path to Port Quin

For a longer hike (3 miles) with more than a few stairs, head the opposite direction on the SW Coast Path to Port Quin.

Port Quin is an abandoned fishing village.

Now a tranquil near-deserted cove, it’s quietly eerie. A spot of serenity. From here you can backtrack or take a circular walk inland for a fresh perspective. Or…

If you want something even more challenging, continue on the path and complete the stretch to Padstow. I hiked Port Isaac to Padstow this summer, and it was a day I will never forget.

This invigorating 11.7-mile stretch takes you up and down steep terrain, showing you unspoiled quiet inlets and sweeping views of the coast and sea.

It’s a ruggedly beautiful stretch of Cornwall to experience.

Climb The Harbor Wall at Low Tide

When the tide rolls out, the port becomes a playground.

This is a view worth discovering!

Be sure to follow the path along the right side of the harbor and explore the rocks and inlets of the cove, up close and personal.

At the harbor wall, you can climb the iron ladder to the top. Where you can walk the wall, go crabbing or just take in the spectacular view.

Taking time to be present and reflect is one of my favorite ways of practicing self-care during travel, and views like this make it all the more inspiring.

It’s a perfect spot for reflection.

Drink Your Morning Coffee with a View

May Contain Nuts is centrally located shop on the main road leading down to the harbor. And it’s the perfect place to get your cappuccino to go, so you can enjoy it on sitting on a bench in the harbor.

Take your time and observe life in the heart of the village.

You’ll feel a lovely combination of satisfaction from your morning coffee, mixed with the awe of a tranquil Cornish view.

It’s an ideal tech-free activity to start off the day!

Savor a Veggie Pasty from Nicky B’s

Why not treat yourself to a traditional Cornish pasty? After all, you are in Cornwall. If you’re looking for something quick or portable, look no further than Nicky B’s Pasty Shop.

They have a wide variety of pasties ranging from traditional steak to vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free. Which is perfect if you want to grab a pasty for your coastal walk or day out at Gaverne Beach.

I have to say, the Stilton pasty is a real treat!

Enjoy Fresh Seafood

Being a fishing village, there is no shortage of places to eat seafood in Port Isaac.

Here are two to look out for:

  • The Mote is a charming local haven where you can dine while enjoying the atmosphere of a cozy 16th-century building. The crab linguine is delicious.

  • Or, head right next door to Outlaws Fish Kitchen. Located in a 15th-century fisherman’s cottage, this Michelin star restaurant serves up unique small plate creations meant to be shared. Be sure to book ahead!

Both of these restaurants buy locally sourced fish, and it’s a good feeling to dine at restaurants that support the local economy.

Find Stillness & Solitude at St. Endellion Church

Surrounded by fields and sitting just outside the village, is the 15th-century church of St. Endellion. I had read about the wood ceiling being built by local boat builders, and decided to see it for myself.

Approaching from across the field, you can’t help but notice how the church towers over the landscape. You feel its presence.

It’s a stunning period church and the wood ceiling is masterful.

If you want a quiet place that offers insight into what Post Isaac is all about, give this church a visit.

Everywhere you turn in Port Isaac, you’ll find beautiful views. They will inspire you, engage you and leave you feeling refreshed.

Which is exactly what travel should do.

I hope you take a few of these wellness things to do in Port Isaac on your next adventure too!
