10 Wellness Things To Do In Cornwall

The last two summer vacations I spent exploring Cornwall. Both trips were captivating, rejuvenating, and well…. a little bit magical.

For me, Cornwall was love at first sight…well, sunset really! And my mom found it to be an easy place to relax & unwind.

Not only was it an engaging place to practice self-care and pursue better well-being, but it’s also a place that helped me to heal grief.

The thing I found about Cornwall is that it’s easy to feel connected. To the people, to the landscape, and to yourself. Making it an idyllic place to nurture well-being.

I am a big advocate of wellness travel, traveling in ways that enhance health & well-being. In my opinion, Cornwall has got to be one of the best places to plan wellness travel, as well as disconnect from daily life.

So, here are some wellness inspired elements for your next trip. These ideas can easily be worked into any length itinerary, no matter where your Cornish adventures take you.

Walk The South West Coast Path

The South West Coast Path in one of the top hiking trails in the world, and one of the best ways to take in Cornwall’s coastal scenery.

This 630-mile coastal trail wraps around quiet coves, passes through panoramic harbors and intertwines with historic mining areas.

Making it an ideal way to stay in shape and engage your mind & body. All the while experiencing some of the best views that Cornwall has to offer.

Whether it’s an afternoon stroll from one village to the next, a day hike or a multi-day hike…you won’t be disappointed.

It’s mindful, promise!

Refresh with a Swim

Cornwall has some of the top-rated beaches in the world, including seven prestigious Blue Flag beaches. Here are a few not to miss.

People Swimming at Sennen Cove Beach in Cornwall

  • Porthmeor Beach, a blue flag beach in St Ives, is a popular swim and surf destination. And a glorious place to watch the colors light up the sky at the sunset.
  • Sennen Cove, the most westerly beach in Cornwall is a crowd favorite too. It must have something to do with the deep blue-green water, which is absolutely unforgettable! The adjacent dunes provide a place to stretch your legs and the wide beach offers plenty of space to relax and soak up the warm sun.

Surf The Waves

Cornwall is well-established as a surf destination. Making it the perfect place to catch the waves, whether you are a beginner or a pro.

Surf Shop in The Popular Tourist Destination of Cornwall

The mild climate and endless beaches make it popular for surfing. And with over 200 beaches to choose from, you can’t go wrong!

If you are new to surfing, no worries. Cornwall has you covered with surf schools up and down the coast.

Kayak The Blue-Green Waters

Why not get some heart-pumping exercise and see Cornwall from a new perspective, the water!

Kayaking Boats Entering a Cove in St. Agnes Cornwall

Experience the tranquil and placid waters on The Helford river, glide along the Caribbean like waters of St. Ives or opt for something more challenging along the rugged north coast in St. Agnes.

This summer I had an unforgettable experience at Koru Kayaking in St. Agnes. I HIGHLY recommend it!

Gliding alongside the dramatic cliffs of the north coast was invigorating, peaceful, & inspiring all at the same time.

Savor Fresh Seafood

With more than 400 miles of coastline in Cornwall, it’s no surprise that fresh seafood is everywhere. Because much of it is served the same day it’s caught, just about every meal you have seems like the best you’ve ever had.

Add in all the places along the coast where you can dine with a view, and my oh my…it’s seafood heaven!

Whether you are looking for take-away, casual dining or even a Michelin star restaurant, there is always something fresh off the boat to enjoy!

Explore Farmers’ Markets

I love farmers’ markets. They have a down to earth, old fashioned feel to them. That’s because wandering a market is a wonderful way to connect with locals and get an insight into the local food culture.

Buying from small businesses is also a way to support sustainable tourism, which is a win for local communities & good for the planet!

In Cornwall…St Ives, Pendeen, & Penzance all have great markets.

Relax & Unwind At A Spa

Nourish your mind, body & soul with a visit to the spa.

As if a spa visit isn’t already enough to boost your well-being, many spas in Cornwall boast spectacular views overlooking the coast.

Making them even more therapeutic!

Outdoor Relaxation Area Overlooking The Ocean at Bedruthan Spa

This past summer I had a great wellness weekend in Mawgan Porth and stayed at The Bedruthan Hotel & Spa.

I loved their outdoor sensory garden experience and watching the sunset from the terrace was a moment of peaceful reflection.

If you find yourself in St. Ives, I highly recommend a massage at The Attic Cellar. Still on my bucket list is The Scarlet Spa and their freshwater reed pool.

Find Solitude at an Ancient Site

Cornwall’s landscape is home to hundreds of ancient and Celtic sites. From stone circles to monuments and wells, they each have their own ancient history and even folklore.

It’s fascinating to wander these sites and ponder how those before us left their mark on the land and the spiritual significance of their worship.

If you crave a quiet space to fully be present and that seems to be yours alone, visit The Merry Maidens neolithic stone circle.

Not far from Penzance, it lies on a gentle slope amongst the fields and is a tranquil spot to contemplate.

Enjoy An Afternoon In A Garden

Thanks to the warmth of the Gulf Stream, Cornwall enjoys some unique and magical gardens. So why not carve out time in a garden or two while you are in Cornwall?

Barbara Hepworth Museum & Sculpture Garden in St. Ives Cornwall

After all, who wouldn’t feel better after discovering unusual tropical plants with colorful blooms or exploring an unexpected terraced garden that coexists alongside the ocean?

If the later piques your interest, head to St. Michaels Mount near Penzance and experience the invigorating feel of garden meets the sea.

If you crave something more intimate in feel, head to The Barbara Hepworth Museum & Sculpture Garden in St. Ives. It’s a tranquil gem.

Explore History at a Mining Museum

There’s no better way to stretch your brain and discover something new than to visit one of Cornwall’s tin mines.

Since the mining culture is an important part of Cornwall’s identity, it’s an ideal way to dive into the history and heritage of the region.

Not to be missed is The Geevor Tin Mine. It’s the largest preserved mine site in Britain, and part of The UNESCO Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape. Here you can explore the museum, take an underground tour and take in stunning coastal views.

Cornwall has so much to offer, that’s for darn sure.

No matter where your travels take you, there will be plenty of opportunities for active adventures, delicious dining, and mindful moments! Guaranteeing you’ll leave feeling better than when you arrived!

until the next time…
…live well – travel well – be well
