Stress. Work. Deadlines. Know the feeling? When you really need a recharge? If so, perhaps it’s time to plan a wellness day trip!
While two weeks exploring Italy or England would be travel bliss, most of the time our schedules simply don’t allow for that dream.
But, there is an easier way to take a break for our health, well-being, and sanity. Cue the day trip.
When you haven’t taken a break in a while, life feels like a grind.
But, scheduling regular day trips is an ideal way to counter that by fitting tiny spurts of well-being into your life. Since Americans commonly travel to reduce stress, a day trip is a simple and economical way to go.
For most of us, small pockets of time to get away are easier to schedule. Making day trips an ideal addition to any self-care routine.
How To Plan A Wellness Day Trip
I’m a passionate advocate for travel as a way to wellness.
Wellness travel is the fastest-growing sector of tourism, and it’s really no surprise. People are looking for engaging ways to take care of their mind & body as they navigate modern life.
Wellness travel has something to offer everyone. A way to rest, relax and rejuvenate. And you don’t even have to plan a wellness weekend getaway or a vacation to reap the benefits of wellness-focused travel.
A wellness infused day trip is a perfect injection of energy to reboot your life. It’s also a convenient way to recharge the batteries without spending a lot of time or money.
In fact, planning a self-care day trip is as simple as intentionally including activities that support the mind, body, & spirit.
Want to start planning your next wellness day trip?
Here’s how…
Evaluate Your Needs
Since your health & well-being is ever-changing, the first step is to tune into what you really need to recharge your mind & body.
Sometimes a change of scenery is in order. Other times, it’s some peace & quiet.
It could be the great outdoors that you crave. Or perhaps you simply want to get out of your own head and learn something new.
Whatever it is you need, let you intuition lead the way.
Brainstorm & Plan
Start by deciding if it’s going to be a solo day out, time to reconnect with friends, or a family outing. Because everyone’s needs and interests are different, there is no one answer here.
Next, give thought to where you want to go. What location might best meet your current needs?
Maybe it’s a new destination you’ve been wanting to experience. Or even revisiting an old favorite. Perhaps you just fill the car up with gas and go where the wind takes you! After all, sometimes the best days are the unplanned ones.
Get Active
Exercise is one of the best ways to boost your mood!
It doesn’t even have to be sweaty or complex. Even walking is an easy way to do your mind & body some good. Think about it, you can do something as simple as getting out the phone and taking a mindful photo walk!
There are lots of great ways to enjoy movement when you are on the road.
Consider the season and what each location has to offer. Think about both indoor and outdoor opportunities, then work some movement into your day.
Explore Through Food
You gotta eat, right?
So why not take the opportunity to really nourish your body with healthy, fresh, or seasonal food.
Bookend your day with a yummy breakfast or a gourmet dining experience. Or enjoy a leisurely afternoon drink.
For a more immersive experience, look for a food related event.
Take Time to Disconnect
There is no doubt that our 24/7 connected lifestyle takes it’s toll.
A day trip is the perfect opportunity to reacquaint ourselves with life. To step back from devices and explore all that the world has to offer.
Whether you look to indoor or outdoor adventure, be sure to include some tech-free travel activities. That way can more mindfully explore.
Personally, I love to put my phone away and take a photo walk with my camera. It fills me up with the novelty and goodness of the places I explore and allows me to feel presence and flow. Time well spent, wouldn’t you agree?
Plan Something You Enjoy
The entire idea behind a getaway is to take a break from your daily life. A break from stress, responsibilities, and commitments.
So, doing something you love is a great way to engage with the day.
Whether small or big, do something that brings you joy. Something that adds happiness to your day, like photography.
Get out the camera and take a mindful photo walk, pursue your favorite hobby, or attend a special event.
Whatever it is you love, work it into your day! In fact, I never plan a wellness day trip without considering this.
By all means, go & plan your next wellness day trip. Your mind & body will thank you in advance!
until the next time…
..live well – travel well – be well
